New Delight

At the party all alone
She sat there silent by a phone
Indifferent to the music
And the laughing in the room
He snuck on over like a cat
Quietly removed her hat
And swept her off the table
Removing any signs of gloom

And inside he was changing, he was lit up in the night
By the spark provided by his new delight

And through the months he took her everywhere
She never spoke but he didn't care
She's such an inspiration
That he spoke enough for two
He lost his shyness and had fun
Though some warned his love was overdone
And that she didn't love him back
But he just ignored that view

Overall he knew he was still happier than before
And if anything his love only grew more

One night while acting like a clown
He took her to a ledge downtown
And they danced, but she slipped
And he stepped off the side
Then he never was the same
He knew he had himself to blame
They became just friends
After the night he almost died

Now he's got a stitched-up heart, bursting at the seams
From wearing it on his sleeve in his half-thought-through schemes

The Cycle

Let your heart attack, and get somewhere you really need to be
And make sure you are sharp to help you get the guarantee
Care what others think of you, and if you really want to thrive
Let their thoughts define yourself and steer your inner drive
Drive

Squeeze your free time cause working too much is not absurd
When unnecessary face time is preferred
If you don't agree, let the cycle spin you round, you'll see
That going with the flow is the way to be
Be

There are days when I can feel my life get sucked out from inside
Not sure how I'm gonna take this for a long ride
Some people might say go on and aim high, reach for the sky
But I'm much too busy wasting time, sitting down with a sigh

I'm stuck inside a cage, and I think the key has been destroyed
Though I've been told I shouldn't be too annoyed
And now the floor's rising up, and there's a bunch of cash shaped like a rope
And I'm searching for a sign of a shred of hope
Hope
Hope
Hope

Silent Wooden Memories

The rain came down like machine gun bullets from the sky
But we unsheathed our shield and held it up high
And we walked so close as if we did not we'd die

And I noticed the trees
Crying out in disharmonies
I want to be like him

We got to the show, and all was more than alright
Her head on my shoulder as they turned down the light
And when we left that place, we went arm in arm to the night

And I noticed the trees
Swaying in the gentle breeze
Waving goodbye jealously

And now tonight I find myself in a familiar place
An old battlefield where I tried to chase
A comet of a dream that belonged in space

Now we meet again you trees
You silent wooden memories
You stubborn silent wooden memories

Whatever You Say

Once there was a man who couldn't get his plan of happiness to work
And even when things seemed alright, there was a sadness that would lurk
And I saw him one day, and I said to him, hey, be happy you got it good
There are probably millions of people who'd trade places with you if they could

He said thanks, man, whatever you say
Then sighed and dropped his head and walked away

Once there was a dude with a bad attitude that he learned from his TV
And now it was chronic fear, bitterness, anger, and jealousy
Well I saw him one day, and I said to him, hey, go out and feel the sun
Life's too short to always be staring down the barrel of a gun

He said thanks, man, whatever you say
Then sighed and dropped his head and walked away

The world can get you down, even when you think you're fine
Or the only thing you might need is for the stars to align
And then you realize the sad path of least resistance
Is where you require the most assistance

Once there was a guy who couldn't deny that things were out of hand
In the sense that on rough days hopelessness was first in command
And I saw him one day in the mirror and said, hey, just smile you got so much
You're wasting your days if you're looking for some magic healing crutch

He said thanks, man, whatever you say
Then sighed and dropped his head and walked away

Lullaby

The moon is high and sideways smiling
It's time to close your eyes
Then you can visit magic lands
With always sunny skies

And if the sunshine brings you pain
You can close your eyes and dream of gentle rain
But no matter what you dream to do
Good night, I love you

When morning comes the world may try
To steal your love away
So stay true to yourself
Don't let the world plan your day

And if the sunshine brings you pain
You can close your eyes and dream of gentle rain
But no matter what you dream to do
Good night, I love you

Let's throw our worries out and close the window tight
Let them disappear into the night

And now it's time for me to go
I'll need to get rest too
And as this day has met its end
So will this lullaby for you

And if the sunshine brings you pain
You can close your eyes and dream of gentle rain
But no matter what you dream to do
Good night, I love you
Good night, I love you

Time Runs Out

The Grotto

Haphazardly hanging out on smooth waters
Floating on my ship in a bottle
But eventually crashing into a coast
I wander on land and find an opening

I stop and think as the sunlight goes away
My ship is wrecked, and there is no one else out here
I peer inside and see that it's a cave
I don't think this is where I want to go

Yet here I am at the entry way
Walking, slipping sideways down the rocky stairs
Reaching back to try to hold on to
Anything at all
Anything at all

Hunchbacked gnomes waddle to their daily work
With torch in hand, one comes over and grabs my tongue
He says I can stay or die trying to leave
After all, this is the best grotto

I can tell that here I won't last long
So before I choke on my thoughts
I decide that later tonight
I'll get out of here
I'll get out of here
I'll get out of here

Been down here for awhile
And my hump's coming in okay
Got a little money
And live near the opening by the bay

If I get caught a second time
I'm not sure that I'll once again survive
So for years I've been working on a plan
To try to get out alive

As the years pass I am not exactly sure
Why I'm doing the things I do
But I do know that I will probably
Be doing them tomorrow too

Moonlit Walk

Memory

I hope I don't forget
All those times we met
Cause they're great memories
But they're fading everyday
Makes me sad to say
You are a memory

I hope you don't let go
Of the words I used to show
How much you mean to me
Now I'm just in your head
So there's a day I dread
I won't even be a memory

Well don't they matter at all
The things I can't recall
I suppose it's okay
We're not meant to last here forever anyway

But I'm still wishing all the time
That one day I'll find
Your smile in front of me
And I'm up at night
Cause I'm just trying to fight
The fading of your memory
